Rick Ashley's Facebook Guidelines

It is increasingly important to include posting guidelines to your Facebook page to indicate acceptable behavior and any  reasons for posts to be deleted. This should be limited toobvious indiscretions such as libel or profanity and not because it is negative to the company.

We list a few examples here from the insurance industry and will maintain and add to this page.

The minimum should cover:

  • Encouraging people to  share ideas and thoughts
  • Show respect for other people
  • Stay on topic and keep it clean.
  • Comments that are vulgar, offensive, or include personal attacks will be removed
  • Facebook is a public space and not to share personal information like policy numbers or payment details.

The most common behavior is to add a new tab called “House Rules”, “Posting Guidelines” or even “Legal” but to keep the page short. Long legal documents will not be read. The alternative is to add  guidelines to the Info tab but without the tab heading, this may not be seen.
